Friday Find: Michael Symon Reveals All on WTF Podcast
Chef Michael Symon is well-known for hosting and competing on BBQ TV shows and his well-regarded Cleveland barbecue joint, but on the WTF podcast he tells more about his life and culinary journey.
You may know chef Michael Symon from one of his many Food Network shows, including BBQ USA (which just completed its second season) or from battling chefs Bobby Flay and Eddie Jackson on the first two seasons of BBQ Brawl. Or perhaps you’ve been to one of his many restaurants in Cleveland, including his barbecue restaurant, Mabel’s BBQ, which opened its first location in 2016.
But for me, his recent appearance on the WTF Podcast was illuminating as it was the first time I had heard him talk about himself and his cooking in a frank, unfiltered manner away from the lights of television.
Symon’s interview with Marc Maron is not specifically barbecue-related but rather a chance to get more insight into a man who is a native son of Cleveland who describes his cooking as "meat-centric." Whether you like him or love him, I personally came out with a newfound respect for him as a real person and not just a barbecue television personality.
Note: Symon’s interview starts at the 32:40 mark, and there is some explicit language.
