The acclaimed new restaurant Barbs B Q, earned a James Beard nomination and landed on Eater’s Best New Restaurant list within a year of opening in 2023. The restaurant is located in the tiny town of Lockhart, the barbecue capital of the Lone Star State. The town is home to some of the most iconic traditional Texas barbecue restaurants, including Smitty’s, Black’s, and Kreuz Market. Now Barbs B Q has burst onto the scene, adding a new an exciting barbecue option for diners in the town.

25-year-old owner and pitmaster Chuck Charnichart showcases her heritage and upbringing in the Rio Grande Valley, combining Mexican flavors and executing new school barbecue techniques. Customers order at the Barbs counter, having their pick of pork ribs, turkey, fajita sausage, pork stew — or perhaps some rich and delicious choco pudding for dessert — as well as the famous brisket that has been coated in Mexican spices and smoked for more than 12 hours until perfectly tender.
